Description
Tryfanโs North Ridge is one of the most epic mountains in the UK, and it is situated in the stunning Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia. This unforgettable route is a Grade 1 scramble, making it the perfect next step for those looking to progress from hiking into the exciting world of scrambling.
A Grade 1 scramble involves steep, rocky terrain where youโll use your hands and feet to move. While itโs more exposed and engaging than a standard hike, the movements are straightforward and do not require prior technical climbing experience or the use of ropes and harnesses. With expert guidance from your female Mountain Leader, youโll build confidence throughout the day.
Youโll begin at 9:00am at the Cwm Idwal Visitor Centre in Ogwen Valley. From there, youโll spend around 6โ8 hours on the mountain, taking in breathtaking views, learning key movement skills, and enjoying a rewarding physical challenge in a supportive environment.
Summit To Do exclusively runs women-only trips, and every trip is led by a fully qualified woman, creating an empowering environment where you can feel comfortable.
We keep our group sizes small, ensuring you receive plenty of individual support throughout the day. We also understand that Tryfan can feel intimidating, especially if itโs your first scramble. Our staff have extensive experience supporting nervous participants on this ridge, so please donโt hesitate to share any concerns or fears with us in advance. Weโre here to help you every step of the way.
Important travel note: Ogwen valley is very popular and has limited parking. Please arrive in plenty of time to find parking and walk along the valley if there is no parking available at the visitor centre.
Whether youโre seeking a new challenge or looking to build your mountain skills, this guided Tryfan North Ridge experience offers the perfect balance of adventure, learning, and stunning scenery.

This was my first experience assisting an ML after taking my ML training recently. The group was small, with mixed experience and different backgrounds, but all clicked really easily. El made the tricky parts easier for those who were nervous and shared lots of knowledge of the local area with the group and other scramblers on the day. It was a great experience to both assist in the route planning, and also get to see El in action on her first weekend as paid ML. Amazing weekend, thanks for having us! Would 100% recommend for those looking to step outside of their comfort zone.

I had one of the best weekends, I joined el on the tryfan and crib Goch days out and both were absolutley incredible. I have never been on a guided day out with a qualified mountain leader before but I felt like I was in safe hands the duration of the weekend. It was great to go at a slower pace and stopping whenever we needed was encouraged. Thank you El for such an epic weekend!
